October 2019 is Community Conflict Resolution Month

The WDRC invites the community to join in recognizing October 2019 as Community Conflict Resolution Month.

City of Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville and Whatcom County Executive Jack Louws have signed a Joint Proclamation recognizing October 2019 as Community Conflict Resolution Month. Governor Jay Inslee has signed a similar Proclamation for the State of Washington. Around the world, the third Thursday in October (October 17, 2019) will be celebrated as Conflict Resolution Day.

The WDRC invites community members to commemorate Community Conflict Resolution Month by committing to approaching conflict in constructive and collaborative ways, and by supporting access to low-cost, professional conflict resolution services.

There are a number of ways to participate in Community Conflict Resolution Month:

  • Follow the WDRC on Facebook and Twitter throughout the month of October for daily conflict resolution tips and suggestions

  • Sign up for a conflict resolution skills workshop at https://www.whatcomdrc.org/training/

  • On Thursday, October 17th, make a contribution to the WDRC in honor of Conflict Resolution Day

  • Purchase tickets to the WDRC’s 17th Annual Peace Builder Awards (held November 15th at BTC’s Settlemyer Hall), which honors the individuals and groups in Whatcom County who are putting the pieces together for creative conflict resolution in our schools, neighborhoods, and communities.
