What do you think of when you hear the phrase mental illness?  Mental illness is more common than most of us think.  In fact, we may have friends or neighbors who struggle to manage their mental health without us even knowing.  Sarah Bond-Yancey is on the board at NAMI Whatcom and is in our practicum program.  Sarah will be leading a workshop to reframe mental illness and how mediators can work to be inclusive to all of the WDRC's clients.

As the WDRC transitions into our new home, it only seems appropriate that in our first in-service we discuss transitions in mediation.  While there are 8-stages to the mediation process, perhaps the most important parts of the process occur in-between the stages as mediators transition the parties throughout the mediation session.  Come to this in-service to have lively discourse and practice around transition statements.

Our very own Amanda Semenoff will discuss the use of collaborative games to build empathy, strengthen relationships and teach collaboration skills.  This interactive workshop will use the collaborative card game Zombie Fight or Flight to explore the real world application of games as tools to extend resolution processes in a wide variety of contexts including inter-generational, board governance, family, small business and community sports.
